Actun turned and looked at Sasha, "Ensign, my main interest is in the origin of the sphere if we can link it back to the Romulans or someone that works for them. Of course any information at all that you can process from it is valuable. I have several task to perform right now but if you need any assistance in Science feel free to ask." "Actually Sir, I had heard around the rumour mill that the Captain's wife, is a skilled scientist, so I think I will request her help.", That wasn't exactly true, Sasha had been nosey and looked into the Captain's bio files to prepare herself for a new CO, but Actun didn't need to know that. Actun nodded. "Don't forget that your investigation is forensic in nature. Security would want to get any information you find as well in order to catch the perpetrator. There are several parallel investigations going on." "Yes Sir, I understand that - I'll be in the science labs, should you require my help." "Very well Ensign, keep me posted." Actun concluded and left. Sasha watched Actun left and stifled a grin. ~Forensic 'eh~ she chuckled to herself. She had just the person to help her with the forensic side of this investigation... (Reply any) (Posted by Gemma) **** (Starbase Geneva - Ready Room - Lee/Alaya - 16.10) "Your option would be to have a quiet word with the Commander, vouch personally to me for his behavior whilst he is on the station and have a word with him about his disrespectful attitude." Lee closed his eyes, he could not believe this Arrogant CO who did not seem to have the ability to absorb what he had done, who he was talking to or the gravity of the situation he had come to resolve.. ~I have a nasty attitude, oh yeah, being referred to as a Romulan spy and being threatened to be interrogated will do that to a guy.~ =^=Captain, you have my personal assurance that his behavior will improve. Isn't that correct, Commander Lee?=^= Lee stood ram-rod strait, just itching to write the words he already had planned for the report to the Fleet Admiral. This CO was not only acting on information he had only inferred, he was being paranoid about it when indeed it was his time to be informed. However, in the mean time he had to be nice. In clipped tones, he said "Perfectly correct, Fleet Admiral." =^=And you are going to behave and do your job without another word, is that Clear Commander?=^= "Crystal, Sir." =^=I trust this satisfies you, Captain Aragorn?=^= (reply Aragorn) =^=Very well, I have a meeting to attend. Commander Lee, expect a communiqué inside two hours. Alaya out.=^= Lee retained his stance, he was going to ENJOY writing that report to the Admiral, after he had begun to set into motion the Security and Engineering procedures that were going to be needed for this operation. Regardless of the idiot CO, the Nimitz was his true priority and it would be his center of vision for as long as he was in charge of the special Structural Engineering team that would do the major work to her. He was, after all, a professional& the Nimitz would be completed on time if he had to break his own back to do it. That in mind, Rich bit his tongue for a moment, then swallowed his pride and said, "Permission to organize the Engineers, Structural Engineers and Security departments as per orders, to prepare for the imminent arrival of the Nimitz, Sir." (reply Aragorn, any) (posted by Trout) **** (Starbase Geneva - Temp Quarters - Lee/Alaya - 1807) Lee paced in the room, waiting for the Fleet Admiral to call so he could get back to work with the preparations. Whatever meeting she was in had better been worth the wait, he had important things to do. On the other hand, it was wise not to get angry at a Fleet Admiral, they could bust you back to Crewman faster then anyone else in Starfleet. After a few more rounds about his quarters, his badge finally beeped. =^=Commander Lee, priority message coming through to you on Subspace.=^= "Patch it through here." he said, as he crossed his arms and stood before the wall monitor. The image of the aging Fleet Admiral appeared, causing Lee to nod his head. "Admiral." She interlaced her fingers, then leaned forward a bit. =^=Commander Lee, after due thought I have decided I am going to remove you from the project and allow for Rivers and Aragorn to make the appropriate decision on who to place in command of the Structural Engineering team.=^= Lee blinked a couple times, then said "Excuse me, Admiral?" =^=We cannot have someone working there who will only irritate the Command officers.=^= Lee waited a few moments, fighting back his anger with what seemed to be Olympian bouts of patience. "Excuse me, Admiral. He accused me of being a Romulan spy, he was going to have me thrown in the brig and interrogated. All because he assumed from the influx of crew what was going on. He said you could have been a plant to make the story look good, and ..." She cut him off. =^=I don't care if he called you the illegitimate son of an Andorian dog and a donkey. He has the pips that you don't have, and he has the time in the fleet that you are sorely lacking. Your shuttle is due to depart in twenty minutes, that should give you just enough time to pack. That is an order Commander, do it.=^= The image winked off, leaving him to face a blank screen. In rage, Lee punched the wall monitor, then leaned against the wall. This universe was unstable, idiotic. Things didn't get done here, the politics were to thick. It was a wonder they had made it this far at all. He picked up the satchel laying on the bed and walked quickly out the door. If that was the way things were, he wanted off this station forthwith. If they would even allow it, he might even leave the fleet. Lee seriously doubted he would get along well here. "You, Mr. Wilson, will have to take over OPS and combine it with your CONN duties. I am sure that you are more than able to do so. Of course that would also mean that you get a promotion to Ensign senior grade. I take it you don't mind that?" Captain Aragorn stated. John looked over at Aragorn. “Mind sir, NO I do not mind sir, thank you very much sir, I will not let you down.” John said feeling very proud of his new shinny pin on his neck John sat and waited for Lt Isengard to stop talking then John spoke. “The shuttles will be transferred at 9:00 and since security is here now shuttle training will be running externally of the station at 10:00 so do not be concerned. When we have shuttles flying all over the place, Organised and supervised of course. Also for the training may I bring the USS Phantom into it and give her a shake down with a bare minimum crew,” John said (Reply Aragorn) John waited for the meeting to end and then he walked out and caught Rofellian’s eye and walked over. “So Lt now, Very impressive.” (Reply Vladek) “When is the best time to do those tests on the Romulan shuttle for you, Parak will be able to assist you if I am up here, Just let me know later if you don't mind, Sir” John stated unsure on how to act around Vladek any more since is promotion started. (Reply Vladek) John then looked at the Empty control panel at Ops station and Conn. ~Can I really do all of this~ John thought to himself feeling very concerned at the prospect of running two departments how ever he was not going to let the captain down. John set about sorting out the ops station so Conn could be rerouted through it so he could keep an eye on things. He pushed the internal COM system. “Wilson to Parak,” John said =^= Aye sir, what can I do for you, =^= “I want those shuttles prepared for 10:00 the new Shuttles will arrive at 9:00 so stow them away and get ready for the combat drills, I will be aboard the USS Phantom running things, Get out of bed and get them ready Parak, Wilson out,” John then looked over the Computer systems and began to run checks, since a lot more was required of him as acting Chief of Operations. **** (Starbase Geneva - Ready Room - Lt(jg) Walker Isengard - 08.39) Walker couldn't believe his ears, the man was giving out promotions now, for no reason at all? Change in departments, that he could understand just fine, but promotions? He kept his face impartial, waiting to hear what he would say when he turned to the two security officers. "And you, Mr. Isengard and Mr. Rofellian, let me first state that I have been made aware of all the good work that you have been doing on this base. To represent my thanks, I will give you both a field promotion. You, Mr. Isengard will be promoted to Lieutenant senior grade, whereas you, Mr. Rofellian will be promoted to Lieutenant junior grade. I know that would be a double step for you, but with the oncoming problems we are going to face, I feel we need as strong a Tactical presence as possible." Walker simply nodded. He didn't need a promotion for what he had done, it was only what was needed. But if the captain felt like upping his rank, he had no issues. Aragorn placed four boxes with pips on the desk, one for each of the promoted officers. "Well done, gentlemen. keep up the good work." Walker took one of the solid pips, and nodded to Aragorn. "With your permission captain, I have security details to train and implement for the arrival of the Nimitz..." ~That is an understatement, Lee has me working my butt off.~ (reply Aragorn) (posted by Trout) **** (Starbase Geneva, Ops, Conn / Ops Ensign (SG) John Wilson, 9:00) The computer panel chirped at John He tapped it. “Wilson Here,” John Said not breaking his typing stride. “Hello Sir, The Shuttles have arrived and are under going checks right now, The Flight Crew is prepared for the exercise Sir,” Parak’s unmistakable voice came out over the com. “Very Good Parak and send Crewman Gurgari to the USS Phantom to pilot it, I will be on Board the USS Phantom as well.” John stated. “Very Good sir, Parak out,” John prepared the shuttle bays to launch the shuttles and then signalled over to Montro. “Crewman I would like you to keep a eye on things up here why I am not present running these drills, Any problems just give me a call and I shall beam back is that Ok?” John asked not wanted to leave his new post but needing to Run these training in case anything did go wrong. (Reply Montro) “Thank you,” John said as he made his way over to the turbo lift and down to the Phantom. **** (Starbase Geneva, USS Phantom, Bridge, Conn/OPS Ensign Wilson, 9:30) John walked out on to the bridge of the phantom he looked around at the crewmen pottering around to maintain the ship he saw Gurgari over at the helm. “Crewman Gurgari, Ensign Wilson a pleasure to meet you,” John said in a confident tone to make his authority seem more apparent. “Sir, The controls are a little dated on this ship, and I have never flown one before,” Gurgari stated sounding very worried. “Listen there is no need to worry that's part of the reason for training so you can get used to the ship and know how to handle her, You will do fine Crewman,” John stated in a reassuring tone to try and put Gurgari at ease. John sat down in the Command chair. ~Very cosy and very natural~ John thought to himself a big grin stretching across his face. John looked over to the Ops section and spoke to the Ensign standing there. “Ensign Open up a COM link to the Geneva,” John ordered “Channel open Sir,” The ensign replied. “This is Ensign Wilson requesting permission to begin training,” John said over the Com link. (Reply some one in ops?) “Thank you very much,” John then pushed a button on the command chair. The lights faded slightly as the engines came online. “Mr Gurgari, Take us away from the station Thrusters till we clear the station and then 1/2 impulse till we are clear to the range I have selected. John then pushed another button and several drones were realised from the station and flew away towards the area. The Com then kicked in. “ALL FLIGHT CREW TO YOUR SHUTTLES, ALIEN DEVICES PICKED UP HEADING TOWARDS GENEVA, SCRAMBLE, SCRAMBLE!” John said feeling quite excited to see for they would perform in these training exercises. Pressing her commbadge, Sasha put on her most professional tone. “Lee to Isengard” “Sir, I would like to take the purple sphere confiscated from the Former CO’s quarters to holodeck one so I can run some..er…tests requiring certain conditions I can only replicate in a holodeck environment. If I transport it to and from the site in a level 10 containment container, will you grant me this request?” “Yes Sir I know it’s an unusual request, but I believe it is necessary and you can hold me personally responsible if anything outward happens.” “Thank you Sir, Lee out.” Sasha grinned, and placed the sphere in the containment field. “We’re going for a walk little one,”she whispered to it. NRPG: She’s going mad..she’s talking to the damn thing! *Lol* RPG: She hoped this little idea of hers worked, because she was quickly becoming stumped over what to do. (Starbase Geneva Holodeck 1 CSO Lee 16:35) “Well Watson what do you think of this??” Sherlock Holmes said eying the purple sphere critically. Sasha grinned at her ingenuity. Who better to help her solve this puzzle than one of Earth’s greatest fictional detectives Sherlock Holmes, and his sidekick Watson?? “It is obviously a very advanced object..”, Holmes looked over at Sasha…”What exactly does it do?” “We’re not sure..”, Sasha replied. “We think we'll be able to figure it out if we can open it or turn it on, but we don't know how to do either. I’m beginning to think its impossible!” Holmes eyes glinted with the fire of challenge…”My dear nothing is impossible…have you tried the key?” Sasha looked at Sherlock puzzled..”A key?”, she echoed. Holmes looked at her amused…”Well isn't it the obvious answer? If as you think, it can be opened then instead of taking the brutish method of breaking into this object, why don't you follow where it has been and find the key?” Sasha’s eyes went wide as realisation hit her…”Of course!”, she jumped up shouting…. “Computer end program.” As 221b Baker Street dissolved around her, Sasha packed the sphere back into its container and headed back to the lab. She had some work to do. (Reply Isengard, Louise, Any) (Posted by Gemma) **** (Starbase Geneva Science Labs CSO Lee 16:55) Sasha looked at the time…”Computer locate Louise Palmer” *Louise Palmer is in the CO quarters, it responded automatically.* ~Good~, she thought to herself, ~I can catch her at home…I hope she’s not too busy.~ Grabbing the PADD that had her up-to-date data, she headed out of the room. (Starbase Geneva Outside CO Quarters CSO Lee 17:02) Sasha walked up to the door and pressed the enunciator. Sasha entered the room and looked around. It was beautifully furnished, and so neat! Sasha ruefully thought of her messy unpacked quarters. She had only half moved into Carlos’s quarters, and since she had been avoiding the place like the plague it was a mess. Noticing Louise sitting on the couch, she approached and gave her a friendly smile. Can I borrow some of your time Ms Palmer? Sasha tried to ignore the fact that Louise looked painfully unhappy and cleared her throat... “I read in your bio, that you specialise in the field of science?” “Well as you probably would know, I am currently involved in trying to find out all I can about this purple sphere that was recovered from these quarters, actually.” Sasha paused to catch her breath then continued. “I was wondering if you would like to lend your expertise to this investigation, we need all the fresh idea we can get.” (Reply Louise, Any) (Posted by Gemma) **** (USS Nimitz, Engineering, CEO Miller, 2250) For sure, there was a buzz in Engineering as they grew closer to the Starbase. For his part, Miller was taking a break, as he leant on the frame of his office doorway, where once had been a door, long since used to patch up holes elsewhere. He watched with a satisfied smile as people wearing yellow, red and blue uniforms all still moved around, working together in a way he'd never have thought possible. But then again, it had been a long five months - more so if you were worrying that the ship may fall apart without any notice, and irreparably so. They'd made it, but the work had only just begun. They might be approaching salvation, but there would be no magic cure awaiting them there, just a few more months of solid hard work. After all these people had had a good week or two off, of course. "Now hear this! Now hear this! This is the captain speaking. We will be arriving at Geneva in a little less than one hour. Please check with your departmental heads for the order of disembarkation. Geneva is a relatively small station and we don't want to swamp them." Engineering was engulfed in a massive cheer that drowned out the latter half of her words "What you have all achieved, both in preventing the Romulans from capturing or destroying this vessel, and in bringing her home safely over such a long time and against all the odds, is nothing short of miraculous. It has been an honour to serve as captain to you all - a crew who have performed far beyond the call of duty in so many ways." Miller had no time to listen to that, or deduce any inference, as the entire room seemed to head his way at once, waving frantically to be first off the ship. As the horde approached, he picked up a PADD and flicked it deftly to Valdez "Richard will take care of that" he said mischievously, pointing and with a wink Valdez grinned back, with a mock waving of the fist as he was swallowed up by the multicoloured group. Miller wanted to be elsewhere when the ship came in. **** (USS Nimitz, Bridge, Nimitz TAC/SC Lt(jg) Sevant, 23:45) Sevant sat back in his chair, watching the upcoming station with a look that suggested nothing but stoic indifference. What he felt, however, was something akin to great joy. After five months living in the shadow of death, they had come home. Even better, he felt a very small presence in his mind, his wife was close by. To far to talk, yet not far enough to hide. After all this time, he would finally be able to see her again. "Open a channel to Geneva, Mr Patterson." Sevant looked at the Captain, wondering if she was feeling anything like relief yet, or if she was only more worried about the mandatory Court Martial she would probably have after this debacle. He crossed his arms as they received their instructions for docking, his mind only lightly resting on the security measures that would have to be taken once they had docked. The Romulans would stay in Cargo Bay 2 for the time being, under the Marine/Security guard that had watched over it for five months until he could coordinate with Geneva's security department for relief. He had few people left, most were still laid up and among the first that would off load to Geneva for either extended medical leave, or for an Honorable Discharge from the fleet. Everyone needed a break, and nearly everyone would get one as the Nimitz was refitted. He turned back to his monitor, he had work to do before he could leave. (reply none) (posted by Trout **** (USS Nimitz, Bridge, CEO Miller, 2350) He stepped unobtrusively onto the bridge as Rivers finished giving her bridge orders, and he stopped and looked at the starbase on the viewscreen. After months of there being nothing there, it was strange to see another solid object, especially one so functional and well-designed. And even better, waiting for them. His perception seemed to leave his body, as he floated up to near the ceiling. Rivers was giving nothing away, as usual, and Sovak likewise was relatively composed. Patterson and Drailik both seemed happy but tired, glad also to be safe. And he himself, perhaps the most changed of them all, now sporting a full beard and a pair of half-moon glasses lodged halfway down his nose, perhaps thinner than before, and with definitely more lines about the face. His uniform long-since gone beyond the realms of Engineering yellow - energy conservation had gone a long way on a personal level for far too many Engineers. But now they were here, and it was over. (Reply Any/None) (Posted by Chris M) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mission: Coming Home, Day 1 Stardate: 2405.08.29 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Starbase Geneva, Disembarkation, Lt(sg) Walker Isengard, 0108) Walker stood lightly, waiting for Commander Rivers and entourage to disembark. Things had been flying lately, Commander Lee had quickly laid down plans for keeping the Nimitz under tight security wraps while her battle damage was repaired, generally keeping a low profile but also pushing for whatever security measures or supplies that were needed to set up the repair bay. He had a mouth, but Walker had to admit the man knew what he was doing. The Chief had read Lee's supposed record, he appeared to be perfect for this. Never minding that he also had a temper, and had already gotten on the CO's bad side. Walker had orders to escort the CO of the ship to the Admiral as soon as she was off the Nimitz. A small security detail stood at ease in the background, protection against possible Romulan intervention. Walker thought it a bit premature, but he was cautious to boot. If possible, nothing would touch this ship while it was repaired. He noticed a woman with three full pips disembarking. Her face matched the file he had see, though it was pale and gaunt. "Commander Rivers?" He walked up, and also glanced at a Lieutenant beside her. ~The FO.~ He confirmed in his mind who they were, then said "You and Lt Sovak are to report to Admiral Greeley immediately. She's waiting for your report." She nodded, but he hardly heard. With no warning, his head was flooded with thoughts and feelings& bitter anger and the smell of charred flesh. The woman had been through hell, she had lived on a ship of death and the regrets& the pain& the rage& the sadness. "Lead on, Macduff." Walker heard her, but just looked at her for a moment as he scrambled for stronger shields, it was like a flood of negative emotion had been let loose in his head. And, it was all things he had felt himself, that gave them that much more hold on him. She was strong on the outside, but she was bleeding slowly inside. Whatever she had let go of, it was strong, perhaps it was just her arrival that let her let loose her rigid mental control, or shields, or whatever she had been holding everything in with. Whatever the case, she was going to give a lot of people nightmares if they were even the slightest bit sensitive. He managed to clear his head, by placing one of his strongest shields up around his gifts, he already had a headache. He pointed vaguely down the corridor. "This way." (Starbase Geneva, Outside Admiral's module, Lt(jg) Walker Isengard , 0120) Walker leaned against the bulkhead, blessedly away from that woman and the immeasurable weight of her emotions. She was bleeding, slowly, and Walker thought it would be a long time in her healing. Even with his shields, so much had bleed through from her, he knew more about her and her emotional state now then most anyone, he thought. And, that being said, he knew she would allow herself to bleed herself dry until she had nothing left to give. He had already come to respect her, she had held the ship together for five months when everything around them had been a reminder of the death that had occurred around them. She deserved better, but she wouldn't let herself in her current mindset. Not only that, but if she didn't get help none of the more powerful empathy or telepaths on the station would get any sleep. Not that it was just her with these feelings, but when one started with the head& He took a deep breath, his mind made up. He closed his eyes, and trailed the path of emotion to the source. What he had planned was very illegal, but it had to be done for the good of all. He felt a small pang, the last time he had done what he was about to do, he had ended up falling into unrequited love. This wasn't going to be pleasant. With a moments hesitation, he probed the Captains mind, learned its processes and just what he could do. With a quick mental nod, he proceeded to enter her thoughts and look around while being careful to leave nothing of himself behind. His mind screamed in pain at what he saw, yet he plugged on regardless. He *very* carefully smoothed over the most raw of her memories, carefully dimming them so she wouldn't think about them quite as much. After a few moments his Physical body was sweating at the exertion he was putting forth, but he kept on, dimming memories and burying emotions with the utmost care so she would never know the difference. Lastly, and most important, he placed a small suggestion in her unconscious& a directive, a compulsion in fact, to find someone she could trust and talk to them about everything that was bothering her. Talking to others was the most important step in healing, he had found. He carefully removed her inhibitions about speaking to those she trusted, and paved the way for her pain to escape in a healthy manner. Then, when he was done, he carefully pulled out after checking to make sure that no trace of himself was left behind as a taint. He pulled back into his own mind and slapped the tightest shield he could around himself, once again aware of his surroundings. He had a blinding headache, and his hands shook from the fine control he had placed on his own powerful abilities. However, at the same time, he felt better& she would be able to unload now, and the healing might just begin. He pushed away from the wall with weak legs, he needed to recover from the meeting of minds... (reply Any) (posted by Trout) ****
